Despite a slow and bad start to their league campaign, the blue side of Manchester have finally gotten to their best. After today’s game against Liverpool, which ended up 1-4 in Pep Guardiola’s favour, it’s only fair to say that Manchester City are flying high in the Premier League and are the favourites to win the league now.
Many fans believed this tie at Anfield was one of those which could decide the fate of the Title and quite rightly too. Had Liverpool beat City today, it certainly would have piled up some pressure on Pep’s team. But that’s not the case now though. Manchester City won this fixture and might as well have cemented their 3rd Premier League Title in 4 Years with this win.
Liverpool Vs Manchester City
Both teams started quite slow and didn’t have any impact at all in the first half. Raheem Sterling won a penalty at 36th min of the game but Gündogan shot it too high from the spot. Very disappointing penalty to be honest.
City came strong in the second half. Gündogan drew the first blood and gave blues the lead at Anfield. Salah equalized from the spot resulting from a foul from Ruber Dias. City then scored two goals in quick successions. Gündogan scored his second at 73rd minute of the game and Sterling provided a 1-3 lead to Guardiola’s side after a close-range header at 76th minute of the game. Foden’s strike at 83rd of the minute of the game absolutely demolished Klopp’s side at Anfield.
Liverpool have now lost 3 back to back games at Anfield. Its first time since 1963, Liverpool have lost 3 consecutive home games. They have been really poor for the past couple of games and have struggled in front of goal. Liverpool have also suffered massively because of injuries. As it stands, Liverpool have a very slim chance of retaining the title.
Meanwhile, the League leaders are now 5 points clear with a game in hand, from Manchester United who currently are at second position in the League.
While the defending Champions currently seat at 4th position of the League Table with 40 points compared to City’s 50 Points.
Despite their injuries and slow start, City are flying high in the Premier league. Players like Gundogan, Mahrez, Foden, Stones, Sterling have performed incredibly in the absence of Aguero and De Bruyne. City have won 10 consecutively games now and no matter how you look at the League, the Blue side of Manchester are the Favourites to win it this year.
